    Abi joined Fidelis in 2021 as an Assistant Underwritier in the Aviation team. Abi previously worked at Piiq Risk Partners as an Account Manager where she handled Airline, Aerospace and GA clients. Prior to this, Abi worked at Antares where she was involved in the underwriting process and negotiations across the entire Aviation portfolio including, Airline, Aerospace, Hull War, Satellite and GA business, and was responsible for underwriting both Airline and Aerospace accounts.

  • Alice Tyler
    UNDERWRITER

    Alice joined Fidelis in March 2021 as a Marine Underwriter within the Specialty Division. Prior to joining Fidelis, she worked at CNA Hardy from 2017 as an Assistant Underwriter in the Cargo Team. She began her insurance career as an account handler and broker at Marsh JLT Specialty within the Specie division. Alice holds an MA in Anthropology and Sociology from the University of Aberdeen.

  • Andrew Wallen
    CONTRACT WORDINGS COUNSEL

    Andrew joined Fidelis in 2021 as Contract Wordings Counsel. He qualified as a Solicitor in 2007 and, subsequently, a Solicitor-Advocate in 2010. Andrew practised almost exclusively in the insurance sector, specialising in litigation, policy coverage disputes and providing wordings advice to insurer clients. Cases of note include the ‘EL Trigger Litigation’ and litigation arising out of the Indiana State Fair stage collapse. Prior to joining Fidelis, Andrew spent over 5 years at Tokio Marine HCC. He graduated with an LL.B from the University of Liverpool in 2004.

    Arif joined Fidelis in 2019, supporting several functions through his rotational internship programme. Prior to this Arif was supporting the Risk and Compliance divisions at Asta Managing Agency whilst sitting A-levels in Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology. Arif currently works as an Underwriting Assistant across the various Bespoke and Specialty lines of business.

  • Bashir Kosoko
    UNDERWRITING ASSISTANT

    Bashir joined Fidelis in November 2020 as an intern, supporting the Bespoke and Specialty underwriting team.  Bashir studied mathematics, economics and geography at Harris Westminster and before joining Fidelis, he undertook online mentorship programmes with Ms Amlin and Canopius and attended an ‘Into Insurance’ workshop and attended a Lloyds conference.  Bashir is an Underwriting Assistant and this is his first role in the Insurance Industry.

    Ben joined Fidelis in July 2020 as a Marine Underwriter within the Specialty Division.  He had worked at Liberty Specialty Markets since 2012 in a number of roles including Marine Cargo Underwriter and more recently Portfolio Manager for Marine and Aviation.  Ben has a BA in Business Economics from the University of Hertfordshire.

    Chloe joined Fidelis in 2020 as a Senior Contract Wordings Specialist having 10 years of industry experience and specialising in multiple lines of insurance business. She was previously employed in a Contracts role at AXA XL and prior to that Tokio Marine Kiln. Chloe is ACII qualified and is a Chartered member of the CII.     Chris joined Fidelis in 2021 after graduating from the University of Southampton. His Business Analytics degree culminated in a dissertation focussed on Disaster Risk Management.   • Daniel Burrows
    GROUP MANAGING DIRECTOR AND SOCIUM CHAIRMAN

    Dan joined Fidelis in 2015. Prior to this he was co-CEO of AonBenfield’s Global ReSpeciality (GRS) division from 2013 until 2015. Specialising in non-marine retrocession and the aviation, marine and energy sectors, among others, he supported all of AonBenfield’s business hubs across North America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific. Prior to this, he was Deputy CEO of the GRS division from 2008 until 2013. He began his career as a non-marine property broker at Greig Fester in the 1980s, later joining the retrocession team and then leading that team following a merger with Benfield in 1997. Dan is a member of the Executive Committee.

    Dominic joined Fidelis from Swiss Re Corporate Solutions where he was an Underwriter in the Political Risk Insurance team. Prior to joining Swiss Re Dominic spent 4 years at Aon where he completed the graduate scheme before working in the Political Risk and Structured Credit team. Since joining Fidelis Dominic has  worked on the development and execution of a number of high profile bespoke insurance products and managing strategic client relationships. Dominic is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Insurers and holds a BSc in Chemistry from the University of Manchester.

    Louise joined Fidelis in 2017 with over 28 years of industry experience, including both underwriting, broking and buying. Louise joined Fidelis from Hiscox, where she was a Group Reinsurance Contract Specialist.  Her early career was spent at the London Processing Centre and Denis Clayton after which she moved on to become Head of Contract Wordings for Swiss Re UK. Louise specialises in all lines of inwards and outwards reinsurance, together with bespoke and specialty insurance, supporting all of the underwriters across the group, including the structuring and development of innovative new products.

    Martin Wheeler joined Fidelis in 2020 as a Senior Contracts Wording Specialist having spent the previous 23 years in the claims arena, as both a Broker and Claims Adjuster where he dealt with major catastrophic commercial Insurance events including Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Sandy; the Haiti and Christchurch Earthquakes; and the World Trade Center disaster. He was recipient of the CII’s John C. Williams Award in 2012, and is a Chartered Insurer and a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute’.

  • Michael Davern
    HEAD OF D&F AND ENERGY

    Michael joined Fidelis from AXA XL in March 2020. After graduating from Oxford University with a Master of Physics degree in 2003, he joined Lane Clark & Peacock Actuarial Consultancy. He joined Catlin in 2008 and qualified as Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries (FIA). He was the property actuary responsible for pricing, reserving and capital modelling for all property lines worldwide across the group. He moved over onto the underwriting side in 2010 as class underwriter writing International and US D&F property business for the Lloyd’s of London Syndicate. He progressed to Underwriting Manager and established the middle market cost centre writing a combination of delegated authority and open market business. Michael will be writing a shared and layered D&F portfolio through the London Market Wholesale Broker network.

  • Richard Coulson
    CEO OF INSURANCE & CUO UK 

    Rich Coulson joined Fidelis in 2015. With fifteen years of insurance industry experience, including both underwriting and broking, Rich joined Fidelis from RK Harrison, where he was Executive Director of Political Risk, Structured Credit and Surety. His early career was spent at MMC Capital and Marsh, where he focused on structuring alternative risk transfer, and captive solutions. After Marsh, Rich spent three years at Hiscox underwriting the company’s space and satellite and offshore energy books – winning the Hiscox Award for Innovation whilst there, before returning to broking and serving as a partner at JLT, specialising in Credit and Political Risk. Rich was elected a fellow of both the Chartered Institute of Insurers and Chartered Institute of Risk Management eleven years ago and during his career has also won the IRM Award for Risk Analysis excellence and an ABI Young Insurer of the Year award – recognising his work on developing innovative new products within the insurance industry. Rich is a member of the Executive Committee.

    Brian has 15 years of industry experience across a number of roles evaluating catastrophic risk. He joins Fidelis from Tokio Millennium Re in Bermuda where he was a Vice President responsible for North American catastrophe underwriting. Prior to his five years at TMR, Brian spent eight years with Tokio Marine Technologies, a subsidiary focused on R&D for companies within the Tokio Marine Group.

    Connor joined the Fidelis North America Property Reinsurance Team in 2021. Connor previously worked on the Underwriting and Portfolio Construction team for ILS fund Elementum Advisors and as a catastrophe modeler at Tokio Millennium Re. Before joining the (re)insurance industry, Connor was a team member of Softbank Team Japan (challenging for the 35th America’s Cup) and sailed in various high-level events including the Red Bull Youth America’s Cup and the M32 World Match Race Tour as tactician.

    Jahvon joined Fidelis in 2015. Originally working in the operations department he switched to underwriting supporting North American Underwriting.     Mark joined Fidelis in May 2020 as an Underwriter for Property Direct & Facultative. Mark began his career at Commonwealth Insurance Company in Vancouver Canada in 2004, becoming the Senior Underwriter for production and marketing throughout the US. In 2012 Mark moved to London to work in the Lloyd’s of London marketplace where he helped build the Navigators and Vibe property portfolios. Mark has a BA degree in Education from the University of Alberta.

  • Nadia Schmidt
    UNDERWRITER

    Nadia joined Fidelis in 2021 from Willis Re where she led the London desk handling German, Austrian and Swiss client reinsurance business. Nadia was also responsible for Willis Re’s International Alternative Capital Practice Group. In her role she managed global accounts as well as regional clients with a focus on German speaking markets. Nadia has a strong technical background, obtaining a diploma degree in Mathematics from the University of Leipzig and qualifying as an actuary with the German Institute of Actuaries in 2019.

  • Philip Vandoninck
    CEO OF SOCIUM & FIBL CEO

    Philip joined Fidelis after a highly successful decade with Hiscox. Joining the firm’s Belgian office in 2004, he moved to the non-marine treaty reinsurance team at Hiscox’s Lloyd’s syndicate before helping to set up the company’s Bermuda office in 2005. In Bermuda, he underwrote within an extensive global property reinsurance and retrocession portfolio, becoming Head of International Property Reinsurance Business in 2013. With the creation of Hiscox Re, Philip became Chairman of International Reinsurance, responsible for underwriting in Bermuda, London and Paris. Philip is a member of the Executive Committee.

  • Richard Holden
    CEO OF REINSURANCE & CUO BERMUDA

    Rich Holden joined Fidelis in 2015. Richard’s career started in the London market at Wellington Underwriting, a leading Lloyd’s syndicate. After spending his initial years in the marine team, Richard moved to Reinsurance in 2004 to help build a new global reinsurance portfolio. In 2007 he joined Amlin Bermuda, to facilitate the growth of their North American Treaty portfolio. By 2013 he was a leading class underwriter.  In 2015 Richard joined Fidelis to Head the North American Underwriting team, focusing on inwards and outwards Reinsurance, portfolio management and developing proprietary rating tools. Richard is a member of the Executive Committee.

    Gary Redmond joined Fidelis in 2020 from Zurich where he worked in New Business Underwriting dealing primarily with Property & Casualty lines. Prior to this he worked for Aon in their Global Inwards Team where he held a position on their EMEA Board of “Millennials”. He graduated from DIT with a BA in International Business & Chinese Language.

    Lesley Grace joined Fidelis in 2021 as an Assistant Underwriter. Prior to this Lesley worked as a Captive Underwriter for Willis Towers Watson, and also as an Underwriter for the self-managed captive Leaseplan Insurance. Lesley started her career in 2010 working for RSA in their Claims team, and she also worked as a documentation specialist in the Governance team in FBD Insurance. Lesley has a Bachelor of Business Studies degree from the University of Limerick (majoring in Risk Management and Insurance), and holds the Advanced Diploma in Insurance (ACII) through the CII.

    Seán joined Fidelis in April 2020. He has over 6 years’ experience in the insurance and reinsurance industry. He most recently worked with ffh Management Services (Fairfax company) where he held Reinsurance Technician and Team Leader roles. Seán also completed a 24 week intercompany rotation programme in London with Advent Syndicate in 2017 with the Exposure Management and Casualty Treaty teams. Seán graduated from the University of Limerick in 2013 (BBS degree majoring in Risk Management and Insurance) and holds the Diploma in Insurance from the Chartered Insurance Institute.

    Mr. Brindle has a career of over 35 years in the insurance industry. Before establishing Fidelis, Richard was the driving force behind Lancashire, founding the company in October 2005 and acting as CEO until April 2014. Lancashire’s innovative and rigorous underwriting approach meant it consistently outperformed its insurance peers. Richard’s insurance career began in 1984 at Posgate and Denby Managing Agency, and since then has included spells at Syndicate 488, Charman Underwriting – where he was the main underwriter – Tarquin Underwriting from 1991 to 1998, and Ascot Underwriting Agency, where he was a non-executive board member from December 2001 to September 2005.

    Denise Brown-Branch joined Fidelis in 2015 and brings over 25 years’ experience in Strategic Programme Delivery and Business Change Management. Denise’s career started in the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods industry, where she focused on Marketing IT and Global Service Delivery.
    In 2011, she joined Bluefin Solutions, a niche consultancy, where she managed a programme of work for Catlin Insurance.
    In 2015, Denise joined Fidelis to manage the implementation of Fidelis’ s strategic Underwriting, Finance, Human Resource, Regulatory Reporting, and Business Information platforms.

  • Daniel Burrows
    GROUP MANAGING DIRECTOR AND SOCIUM CHAIRMAN

    Dan joined Fidelis in 2015. Prior to this he was co-CEO of AonBenfield’s Global ReSpeciality (GRS) division from 2013 until 2015. Specialising in non-marine retrocession and the aviation, marine and energy sectors, among others, he supported all of AonBenfield’s business hubs across North America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific. Prior to this, he was Deputy CEO of the GRS division from 2008 until 2013. He began his career as a non-marine property broker at Greig Fester in the 1980s, later joining the retrocession team and then leading that team following a merger with Benfield in 1997. Dan is a member of the Executive Committee.

    Rich Coulson joined Fidelis in 2015. With fifteen years of insurance industry experience, including both underwriting and broking, Rich joined Fidelis from RK Harrison, where he was Executive Director of Political Risk, Structured Credit and Surety. His early career was spent at MMC Capital and Marsh, where he focused on structuring alternative risk transfer, and captive solutions. After Marsh, Rich spent three years at Hiscox underwriting the company’s space and satellite and offshore energy books – winning the Hiscox Award for Innovation whilst there, before returning to broking and serving as a partner at JLT, specialising in Credit and Political Risk. Rich was elected a fellow of both the Chartered Institute of Insurers and Chartered Institute of Risk Management eleven years ago and during his career has also won the IRM Award for Risk Analysis excellence and an ABI Young Insurer of the Year award – recognising his work on developing innovative new products within the insurance industry. Rich is a member of the Executive Committee.

    Rich Holden joined Fidelis in 2015. Richard’s career started in the London market at Wellington Underwriting, a leading Lloyd’s syndicate. After spending his initial years in the marine team, Richard moved to Reinsurance in 2004 to help build a new global reinsurance portfolio. In 2007 he joined Amlin Bermuda, to facilitate the growth of their North American Treaty portfolio. By 2013 he was a leading class underwriter.  In 2015 Richard joined Fidelis to Head the North American Underwriting team, focusing on inwards and outwards Reinsurance, portfolio management and developing proprietary rating tools.     Robert joined Fidelis in September 2018. With 18 years experience in the insurance and reinsurance industry, Robert was most recently at PartnerRe where he worked for 5 years in various finance roles including Head of External Reporting and as CFO of PartnerRe’s insurance entity. Robert began his career with PwC Dublin before transferring to their London office, working in the Global Capital Markets Group. He joined Aviva from PwC, working in Group Finance in London and managing their reinsurance captive in Dublin. He is a fellow of the Chartered Accountants of Ireland, qualifying in 2004.

    Hinal joined Fidelis in 2015. Prior to that he was the Bermuda Chief Actuary at Catlin. After graduating from the London School of Economics, Hinal began his career at actuarial consultancy Bacon & Woodrow. He went on to work for Mercer, before joining Catlin in the London office in October 2003, with responsibility for providing actuarial support to the Reinsurance business group. His role expanded in 2009 to oversee the actuarial support for the short tail classes of business in the UK. He was appointed Chief Actuary for Catlin Bermuda in 2011. Within that role, Hinal oversaw the actuarial, catastrophe modelling and capital functions for the Bermuda entity. Hinal is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries and a member of the Executive Committee.

    Patricia joined Fidelis in 2016 after more than a decade at Aspen Insurance Holdings in London. She was Associate Group General Counsel from 2007 to 2016, Group Company Secretary from 2011 to 2016 and Group Head of Legal from 2014 to 2016. While at Aspen, Patricia advised the Board on governance matters, evaluated and executed strategic initiatives including UK and US acquisitions, led capital raises and successfully defended an attempted hostile takeover. Prior to Aspen, she was a Senior Associate at LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene and MacRae, L.L.P. in New York and London. Patricia is a member of the Executive Committee.

    Philip joined Fidelis after a highly successful decade with Hiscox. Joining the firm’s Belgian office in 2004, he moved to the non-marine treaty reinsurance team at Hiscox’s Lloyd’s syndicate before helping to set up the company’s Bermuda office in 2005. In Bermuda, he underwrote within an extensive global property reinsurance and retrocession portfolio, becoming Head of International Property Reinsurance Business in 2013. With the creation of Hiscox Re, Philip became Chairman of International Reinsurance, responsible for underwriting in Bermuda, London and Paris. Philip is a member of the Executive Committee.

David started his career with KPMG in Bermuda and spent time in Dublin before moving back to Bermuda to join Harbor Point in 2007 where he was VP of Investments & Treasury. When Harbor Point merged with Max Capital In 2010, David moved to the UK to work for Alterra at Lloyd’s and remained as Assistant Director of Investments until 2013. David was most recently at Chaucer Syndicates Limited where he held the position of Head of Risk and Investments. David is a member of The Chartered Professional Accountants of Bermuda having qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2004 and is a Chartered Financial Analyst® charterholder.

    Ian joined Fidelis as Head of Capital Modelling in 2016, and was promoted to Group Chief Actuary in 2017. He began his career at actuarial consultancy Lane Clark & Peacock and went on to work for EMB (Willis Towers Watson), before joining Catlin in the London office in 2006. Ian spent nearly a decade at Catlin progressing from Actuary to Platform Capital Actuary and finally to Group Capital Actuary. Ian is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries and holds an MA and MSc in Mathematics from Oxford University.

    With over 20 years’ experience in the IT industry, Andy joined Fidelis from Hiscox Re in 2015. As Head of Systems and Lead System Architect he was responsible for the architecture, design, construction and support of their core business systems, leveraging his deep technical knowledge and business expertise.
